There are two basic options - either protect only individual subpages with a password or the entire homepage.
Subpages with password protection:
Password-protection means that you make selected subpages accessible only to people who know the password because you gave it to them. Under "Create subpages & edit" in the members area at the bottom of the line "Protect subpage by password" -> "Change settings" you can generally activate password protection and set the password. Once you have set the password, you can edit the “Login page”. The login page appears when the homepage visitor e.g. clicks in the link menu on a subpage which is password protected. There you can enter an explanation text (e.g., "Hi, this page is password protected. Send me an email if you want to get the password for entering").
Protect entire homepage with a password:
Under point "General Settings" in the members area at “Protect entire website" you can set one password for visitors to enter the entire site. I.e. as soon as someone enters your homepage address (URL) the password request appears. The login page, that you can edit yourself, becomes now the start page of your website. Everything else works exactly the same as described above at "Subpages with password protection".
This is how the visitor can login the protected page:
Username = Members name of your website
Password = is the one that you have set for the password protected areas (thus has nothing to do with your account password)
Hinweise:
- Leider kann bis dato nur ein Passwort festgelegt werden, so dass alle deine von dir autorisierten Besucher dasselbe Passwort verwenden müssen.
- Wenn du das Passwort des passwortgeschützten Bereichs korrekt eingegeben hast, kann es manchmal sein, dass du beim nächsten Mal nicht nach dem Passwort gefragt wirst und es dir so vorkommt, als wäre der Passwortschutz wirkungslos; der Schutz funktioniert trotzdem einwandfrei! Notes:
- Unfortunately, to date only one password can be set, so that all of your authorized visitors must use the same password.
- If you have entered the password for the password protected area correctly, it sometimes will happen that the next time you are not asked anymore to enter the password and it appears to you that the password protection would be ineffective. The protection still works perfectly well! More information about this phenomenon can be found here.
