textarea in page

I'd like to set up a text area for my site,,, but unfortunately it didn't work good,,, because the edit thing (the box) is text area in the source, so when I open a <textarea> tag it'll and close it (</textarea>) then it does some weird stuff. So my question is is it possible to have a textarea on the page?
