Chatiquette - extended version (Chat rules)
Chatiquette long

This is a detailed version of the chat rules.

As in real life there are certain rules as well in the chat which allows the users to chat with each other respectfully and without any disturbances. Good behavior belongs to this as much as the respect for other users and their opinions.

Following this, the rules, also called chatiquette, will be explained. Beep and its chat admins ask everybody to follow these rules. Objecting to these rules will result in the exclusion from the chat and in case of a severe or repeated case, the user will be banned from the chat.

1. Always keep in mind that on the other side there is always a person just like you or me wanting to be treated in the same way you would want to be treated by him or her! Respect and friendliness should be a natural thing. Swear words or slang is not the language to be used in the chat. What you may find funny may be seen completely different on the other side.

2.When you enter the chat, don’t immediately start talking like crazy. First enter and observe for a while in order to know what’s happening, who’s in the chat and what atmosphere there currently is. In real life you wouldn’t just jump into a café and say “Hey, here I am! Entertain me.” Only after you have observed the chat for a while, you can decide if you want to participate or if you want to exit and look for a different room.

Tip: Avoid asking questions like “Who wants to chat?” or “Is there somebody here who would want to chat with me?” Of course everybody wants to chat, or what else should the point of this service be?

3. Who doesn’t like to flirt? The chat is the ideal platform for this, but you should still keep in mind that not everybody might be in the mood for flirting. If a person shows that they don’t want to flirt then respect that and don’t keep on annoying them. Often a question like „are you male or female” is already annoying to most of the regular chatters. In these cases just say “goodbye”, that leaves a better impression than an insulting comment.

4. Life is not always sunny, everybody knows that. This is not a reason for letting out your frustrations on other users in the chat though. If you are not feeling very well then that does not mean that you have to make the life of other chatters miserable: to chat means to have fun and you can surely always find somebody in the chat that would listen to your problems and who would want to talk about it.

5. Everybody was once new in the chat and first had to orientate himself and had to find out how the chat works. Because of this you should help new people and act friendly to them, also in order to help the “new generation.” Who knows, maybe that new person in the chat might someday be a regular chatter or even a good friend!

Should you not feel like helping the new person at all, then it would be better not to say anything to not intimidate that person.

6.Often there are several hundred users in the chat. Always build your sentences with the nickname of the person you are addressing the sentence to, in front, so that the user knows that you are speaking to him:
“Hi Bob, I wanted to ask you something.”

Without that nobody would know who is speaking with whom or from whom you want to have certain information. That will only create confusion.

7.Without humor the chat is boring. Always keep in mind though that not everybody has the same type of humor. What you might cause you to cry from laughing might disgust or terrify others. In addition you should also remember that it is hard to express certain moods or gestures in that chat, which might make a joke or a story funny.

8.Personal data like for example telephone numbers or whole addresses general should not be shown in the chat. Never try to force someone to give you that kind of information. You should understand that a person doesn’t want closer contact and that he wants to enjoy privacy in the chat.

9. Capital letters should only be used occasionally in special situations. In general capital letters are seen as representing screaming. As in real life nobody can stand somebody who is screaming the whole time.

If you decide to write everything in capital letters you should not be surprised if other users are annoyed or if the admin warns you and/or throws you out of the chat.

10. The chat is not the right place to throw around swear words everywhere. With that you will not make yourself friends and you only annoy the other chatters that want to chat in peace.

And also don’t forget that the glorification of drugs, pornographic representations or racist comments in the internet can have legal consequences just as in real life!

11. Should a disturbing person appear in the chat, simply ignore him! Discussions or a answer on the same level won’t get you anywhere, but it might cause you trouble. If such a user is ignored he will become bored soon and will leave when he notices that he can’t achieve anything.

In especially bad cases inform an admin and ask him to watch the situation for a while so he can act accordingly.

Should none of the admins be available in the chat for the moment, you can leave a message in the forum or contact one by email. In an emergency send an email to chat@beep.com
You can find a list of admins under http://admin.beep.com

12. Beep gives you the possibility of taking part in the chat both as a guest with an unregistered nickname or as a member with a registered nickname. In any case you should choose a name which will not insult anybody. You should also never pick a nickname which is already being used by a user to avoid any confusion. It is not allowed to be registered in the chat with two or more nicknames. Nicknames which consist (even if only a part of one) of censored words, which are racist or which contain pornographic content are forbidden.

13.Beep is a community which mainly consists of young users. There are enough erotic-chats in the internet, but erotic chats at Beep are not wanted and will be treated accordingly!
In exactly the same way will be treated questions or requests to sexual actions in the chat (e.g. CyberSex, CS).

14. Even if many people think so, you are not completely anonymous in the chat. Your computer address (IP) is saved every time you log into the chat for data protection. Beep can inform your provider with this address anytime and the provider has your telephone number. So if you behave extremely disturbing or should you keep on mentioning illegal things then Beep has the right to uncover your identity which can result in the appropriate legal consequences. You should note this if you are not one of the people who only want to chat with each other peacefully.

15. The chat isn’t a commercial poster. Surely nobody is going to be disturbed if you sometimes post your homepage address (URL). But if you use the chat only to post your commercials, an admin could kick you sometime.

Notorious spammers or users which for example advertise sites that lead to dialers will be banned permanently!

Never advertise another community or another chat. If you don’t like the Beep chat you don’t have to show that everywhere. The right thing to do in that situation would be to leave the Beep chat and find the chat which you want to participate in.

16.Admins are also mere people. They do their job here to help users and to make sure that everybody follows the rules of the chatiquette. Should an admin not answer promptly then please remember that other users also have questions and that the admin currently may have a lot of work in order to help all of the other users.

If you follow these rules then nothing stands in the way for a great chat life :-)
