Students as Blogscouts - Pilotpoject between Schauspielhaus and University of Graz
17th of October 2007

The international and multimedial Blog-Project, under the coordination of Schauspielhaus Graz, gets support from the University of Graz: We found several blogscouts in cooperation with the institute of information science and business information technology from the SOWI-faculty. From now these students are searching blogs in the German-speaking area.

The Project BLOG THE THEATRE intends to create texts for the theatre distilled from private and multi-media internet diaries (“webblogs”) and to dramatise them. The communication through the medium internet in form of web-blogs provides an insight into wishes, dreams and longings of this young (internet)-generation.

This cooperation between university and Schauspielhaus Graz is part of the last year based cooperation between these institutions. Within the framework of the proseminar “Advanced Business Modelling and Digital Economics” under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolf Rauch, dean of the SOWI-faculty, arises a further intensification and cross-linking between University and Theatre.

Anna Badora, director of Schauspielhaus Graz said: “I am really happy, that this close collaboration with Prof. Rauch accomplished. The work of the Austrian blogscouts will have a special value. These blogscouts are not only focusing to the German-speaking area, they are also including influences from the neighbouring states according to their special cultural background. Their operation method is exemplary for the participating countries. Within this cooperation this teamwork represents an important step. To realize projects like this, was since our beginning the goal of Schauspielhaus Graz. The BLOG Project presents in this regard a great chance. “

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolf Rauch, dean from the SOWI-faculty said: “This project is a great change to examine a new social phenomenon – blogs – parallel from the artistic and academic side. This cooperation between Schauspielhaus and University should also clarify to the students strength and weaknesses in art or rather science and that both are equal ways to reality. Finally you can only fulfil a social phenomenon, if you observe it with differed ways.”

What’s behind this Project?
The Project BLOG THE THEATRE intends to create texts for the theatre distilled from private and multi-media internet diaries (“webblogs”) and to dramatise them.
Under the leadership of Schauspielhaus Graz the project theatres from Hungary, Poland (Stary Teatr, Krakau), Romania (Teatrul Bulandra, Bukarest) and Italy (Theatro Garibald, Palermo) are investigating similarities, differences, requirements, ways and questions in the new European sphere – communicated through the medium Internet. In these four participating countries so called blogscouts are searching absorbing forums and blogs, which are expressing the attitude of life of these young generation. From these blog texts presented at the theatres, a jury will select the best 3 ones for each country. Subsequently, the three award-winning blog texts will be adapted for the theatre by the authors, translated into English and German. These short productions, which are developed in the participating countries from Krakau, Budapest, Palermo and Bukarest, will be presented from 21st to 25th of May 2008 with subtitles in the BLOGTXT Theaterfestival at the Schauspielhaus Graz. Within this Festival the best production will also be awarded. Furthermore this project should be a talent platform for young authors and stage directors.
