OUR THEMES
We cover various themes, which include United Nations Peace Day, Harvest Festival, Halloween, Bonfire Night,
Remembrance Day and Fire Safety, and Anti-Bullying!
Christmas, New Year and also how New Year is celebrated in Spain!
We also look at Communication and what this involves especially for people with various disabilities!
We have had a very special visit from a Volunteer at our Local Blind Institute and a young man who is Registered Blind and his Guide Dog!
This gave the children an opportunity to see some of the resources people with communication difficulties can sometimes use, such has Braille and other Touchy Feely Objects!
This was a fantastic day, the children learnt about how people with communication difficulties cope with everyday tasks we all take for granted, has well has having an opportunity to talk to somebody who experiences this themselves, and how his Guide Dog helps him!
We look at Safety, strangers, been lost, what is an Emergency, what to do? Seat belts and Car Seats, Green Cross Code etc...
We have also been on a Visit to our Local Humber Rescue Centre!
We have looked at:
'OUR MOUTH, OUR TEETH'
This involved learning about our teeth and mouth, and how to look after them and keep them healthy!
This has involved regular Dental Workshop's, activities, work sheets, lots of crafts and also experiments showing us how teeth can decay!
The children really enjoy this!
We have looked at the theme 'HEALTHY'
This involved lots of discussions about foods and drinks, our bodies, exercise and rest, we tried new foods and fruits and some children even brought in their own recipes which we tried!
We have just looked at the theme
Environment
which covered Recycling and Reusing Materials has well as the outside environment, growing plants; the children are all presently growing fruit and vegatables!
We also look at Chinese New Year, Austrailia Day, and Valentine’s Day!
We have also covered the Theme 'Romans and Vikings'
This was chosen by the older children at LSA!
Everybody had lots of fun looking at this theme and even the younger children enjoyed learning important facts and information!
We also went on a fun trip where the children could see for real what they had been learning about from books, pictures and the internet!
WE ALSO OCCASIONALLY COVER THE THEME
'CHILDREN'S CHOICE!'
Although the children enjoy taking part in the Themes we do believe that sometimes it is nice for them to decide themselves what they want to do, look at, their imaginations are wonderful and giving them opportunity to explore and be creative we believe is very important and special!
ALL OF THE CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED IN PRACTICE FIRE DRILLS! AND WE TRY TO ENSURE THE CHILDREN OLD ENOUGH UNDERSTAND WHY?
ALL OF THE CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED WITHIN THE THEMES WE DO (REGARDLESS OF AGE-EVEN BABIES AND TODDLERS!), PLAYING GAMES, TALKING AN SINGING DRAWING, COLOURING, PAINTING, ART AND CRAFT WORK, ACTIVITY SHEETS, VISITS TO THE LIBARY AND USING THE COMPUTER TO OBTAIN INFORMATION PLUS LOTS MORE++++
