Special Needs Policy
LSA Childminding would never deny a place to a child with special needs however we would need to be confident we could offer the best possible care to the child, also ensuring the safety and well-being of all other children within our care. We would be happy to undertake appropriate training if the parent believed it necessary. An extended trial period would be offered to enable all parties to assess the situation fully.
Any extra needs/requirements would have to be discussed in advance so that LSA Childminding fully understand and appreciate these needs, and that the parents requesting these extra requirements feel confident that LSA Childminding can adequately meet them.
If it is decided following discussions that LSA Childminding can not meet these extra need’s the reasons will be given to the parents, and help and advice will be provided in how/where perhaps these needs can be adequately met.
This will not be a failure in fact we see it as a strength if we safely decide that it would not be in that child’s best interest to be cared for by us if we do not believe we could provide the appropriate level of care they require.
CHILDREN WE CARE FOR:
All of the children in our care are special and have their own individual needs and has Registered Childminders and also parents we understand this.
We recently cared for a little girl who has Spina Bifida
And we have also recently cared for a young boy who is Profoundly Deaf and communicates using Basic Sign Language.
We have also cared for other children who have Speech and Language difficulties.
And we have cared for children who have ADHD
These children recieve the same high standards of care all of the children recieve however we also work with their parents to ensure their additional needs are also achieved.
We both know some Basic Sign Language and also try to help some of the other children that we care for learn it too!
We work with the parents/guardians to ensure the needs of their child are maintained and achieved.
We have just recently had a downstairs extension done that is a disabled toilet and wetroom and now also have rear wheelchair access.
We are in the process of recieving new resources that are also inclusive for all children including a wonderful outside water play tap that can be used by all children including children in prams or wheelchairs!
