Trickster's Choice & Trickster's Queen

Kyprish Prophecy- In a time of fear, the One Who I Promised will come to the raka, bearing glory in her train and justice in her hand. She will restore the god to his proper temple and his children to her right hand. She will be twice royal, wise and beloved, a living emblem of truth to her people. She will be attended to by a wise one, the cunning one, the strong one, the warrior, and the crows. She will give a home to all, and the kudarung will fly in her honor."

George- (on Aly translating coded letters) "Somebody would tell you that's unladylike! But no, not your common-born Da."

Alanna- (on Aly's blue hair) "WHAT have you done with your hair?"
Aly- "It's the latest fashion in Corus! It's the height of sophistication."
Alanna- "It's as sophisticated as a blueberry."

Aly- (at the hostlers) "She's not YOUR mother. You try being the daughter of a legend. It's a great deal like work."

Slave woman- "So were you always mad, or did it come on you when you was took?"
Aly- "I'm told it runs in the family."

George- "Are you ready for supper? Maude had them cook all your favorites."
Alanna- "ALL my favorites? They'll have to roll me north, I'll be so fat."
George- "Ah, but you'll puke it all up on the trip so eat away."
Alanna- "That's disgusting."

Aly- Well, well . . . I have a god.

Kyprioth the Trickster god- "I apologize that we weren't able to meet earlier. I hope your journey here wasn't too harrowing."

Aly- "It was delightful. All lovely and serene, like sleeping on lilies, only without the bees in my nose. You spoke in my dream?"
Kyprioth- "I did. You'll get more. I don't want you to get homesick."
Aly- "but that's so THOUGHTFUL. I'd thank you, but I just don't have the words. Until I find some, you might tell me just who you are supposed to be. Won't that be lovely?"

Kyprioth- "I made certain that you would go to the Balitangs and no one else. I fixed your seeming so that no one else would bid on you."
Aly- "Do you mean I got my nose broken, my eyebrow scarred, and the rest of me all battered for NOTHING?"

Kyprioth- "Of course he never mentioned ME. What sane man wants the people around him to know he's favored of a Trickster?"

Nawat- "I am too young for Sarai, I am not even a month old. Sarai is ancient compared to me."

Aly- (to Chenaol) "He's thinking. It will take him a while, since thinking isn't something that comes naturally to him."

Nawat- (to Aly) "I know, and Sarai tells me I must sneak up on you."

Kyprioth- "I needed her. I couldn't have you trying to rescue her all the time."

Aly- "Kyprioth, I need to talk to you," she said quietly. "we are overdue for a private conversation."

Aly- "I hate being quiet. It's so very boring."

Nawat- "We could mate, in a year our nestlings would be large enough to mob anyone we like. In two or three years we could have still more nestlings, until no hawk will venture near our territory. Shall I court you? Do you like grubs or ants better?"

Sarai- It isn't just children who need heroes. Don't you see what she's done for women, for all women? The Lioness, your queen, Lady Knight Keladry, they're living proof that we have a warrior spirit, too, that it hasn't been bred out of the luarin blood. The Lioness is a true hero. She protected her country when no one else could, man or woman. Mithros, she found the Dominion Jewel, she's killed giants and monsters to defend those who can't fight them! The proves that we can do things men do. Not in the same way, perhaps, but we can still do them!
Dove- Everybody needs heroes, Aly, Everybody. Even Grown women. Even Slaves.

"I'm hardly consumed," Aly began to say. .... Aly had found something that consumed her, even if she didn't show it as her mother did. "Have I ever mentioned that I hate it whan you're right?" she asked. -to her mother, Alanna

"When was the last time you argued with a god?"- to her fellow rebels,

"Look!" Ulasim bellowed, pointing up to her. His voice rang over a clash of weapons and shreiks of warriors and Stormwings. "Look at her! There! See how we can be great?

Aly - Never blame an enemy for his stupidity
