Welcome to northmarksoldiers

Here is a step by step guide to setup your irc client and join the #nms channel.

Step 1 - Downloading and installing mIRCDownload mIRC here and install it in any directory you like. The default directory is "C:\Program Files\mIRC".
Step 2 - Configuring mIRCLaunch mIRC by the shortcut on your desktop or via "Start -> All Programs -> mIRC". Before you can connect to the quakenet server and join the #nms channel, you have to fill in some info:

Go to "Tools -> Options -> Connect" and fill in something like this (Nickname is what will show to others):

You can select the Quakenet server from "servers" window.

Step 3 - Connecting and joining the channelNow you have your irc-client set up, click the "Connect To Server" button in the "connect" or "servers" window. If the connect succeeds, a window shown be shown with a list of channels. You can also show this window by gooing to "Favorites -> Organize Favorites".
If you don't want this window to show everytime you connect, uncheck the box "Pop up favorites on connect".

Type #nms, press "Join" and you will join the #nms channel.
If everything went ok, you should see a window something like this:

Note: the 'Q' and '[CB]' in the list on the right are bots. You may talk to them but they won't be responding. They are only there to give the right people op or voice and to keep the channel alive if there are no real clients on the channel.
Also [CB]HelpBot is a bot, made to help people and to give them voice when they need more help. Since the channel is moderated, you will not be able to talk in #clanbase without voice.

You can store channels by clicking on "Add" in the "Favorites" window so you don't have to type them again next time.

Check the box "Join on Connect" if you want to join this channel everytime you startup IRC and connect to a server.

You can also set up a Windows shortcut to go directly to the clanbase channel with this command:
[path to mirc32.exe] -squakenet.eu.org -j#nms
Step 4 - Coming back
There are some easy ways to set up mIRC so you can come back easily the next time. Go to "Tools -> Options -> Connect -> Options -> Perform...". You will see this window:

Everything in this window will be executed any time you start mIRC. Type something similar as shown in the picture.

"//mode $me +x" hides your host if you are authed.

"/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org auth authname pass" authorizes you. Replace "authname" and "pass" with yours. To learn more about this visit the Quakenet site. To get more help in the program you can eventually type "/msg q showcommands" and receive a list of commands.

"/j #nms" joins the channel on Quakenet if you are connected (if you added the channel on "Favorites" and checked the "Join on connect box" then there is no need to do this). You can add 20 channels here
