The Duncanian Perspective on Drugs
The Duncanian Perspective refers to an approach to problems of drug misuse and addiction that was developed by Professor David F. Duncan of the United States. The Duncanian Perspective makes a clear distinction between the use of any drug and its misuse. Prof. Duncan is the originator of the self-medication hypothesis of addiction, which holds that addiction to any drug results from negative reinforcement of drug taking through use of the drug to relieve psychological distress.
