Seaburn fc 2 v 2 Hilda Park
The bogey returns. We were lucky in this one to come away with a point. Hilda played superbly in the first half and we never played football. We gave the ball away far too often and failed to pass and keep possession. We took the lead thru Jack McAneny then they pulled one back and we sneaked ahead again with a corner from Stu Hogan which went in off a defender (hogie's goal). They deservedly equalised with a great strike into the top of the net. Hilda were the better team in this one -we were lucky!!
Lambton Lion tornados 2 v 4 Seaburn fc
A marked improvement from the first game which saw us pass and move like we can. Despite that we conceded two soft goals which should have been avoided-on another day we would have been punished for this. Our goals came from Jack McAneny, Mark Wolfe, Ben Mitchell and Stu Hogan. Ben Mitchell played very well in centre midfield-this lad can play anywhere. Three vital points but we must stop conceding silly goals!!
Saturday 15th march 2008
Easington 0 v 2 Seaburn fc
We never resally got going in this game - never reached our usual standard but never the less grabbed the points against a tough physical team. Mark Wolfe opened the scoring with a lob over the keeper and Jack McAneny sealed the victory. our midfield never got going and the lads at the back were solid. Three good points in the end.
Seaburn fc 2 v 1 East Durham
The scoreline doesnt reflect the number of chances we created in this one but again we werent firing on all cylinders. A sloppy goal conceded gave them some hope and we made life difficult for ourselves. we took a deserved two goal lead with goals from Niall McGoldrick and Jack McAneny then sat back and didnt kill the game off. We need to work harder in the middle of the park but another three valuable points from a very physical team. well done Seaburn
Saturday 8th march 2008
Seaburn fc 4 v 0 City of Durham
A superb start to the cup tournament saw us running out comfortable winners against Durham. For once the lads started well and dominated the game. First goal came from a long range effort from Niall McGoldrick who also supplied several good crosses. Jack McAneny was on fire scoring a hat-trick and Stu Hogan worked his socks off in midfield. All round hard work and a well deserved win.
Deerness Valley Lightning 0 v 4 Seaburn fc
Another great win in horrible windy conditions. The lads dominated this game again and won by the same margin as the first game. Another superb hat-trick by Jack McAneny and one for Stu Hoganto round off a great day. Connor Lawson played well on the left-great battling and Callum Reveley was solid in defence. The two goalies were merely spectators for most of the game. Well done. great start to the cup tournament.
As you can see from the league table below, this season has been superb. Fantastic effort week in and week out from each and every one of the lads. A big thank you to Gordon Mitchell (peacemaker), Secretary who keeps my feet on the ground and gives superb advice-Gordon sorts all the admin and makes the matchdays pass smoothly for me. Also thanks to Pop for helping with the training aspect and warm up's on matchdays. A big thanks to all the parents for their support-especially in recent weeks with the backlog of games. Well done : Matty Dawson, Joe Atkinson, Callum Reveley, Ben Mitchell, Connor Lawson, Niall McGoldrick, Mark Wolfe, Stu Hogan, Nick Killeen, Jack McAneny and Liam Hogg

Seaburn fc 3 v 0 Silksworth
A nerve racking game to start with against a good Silksworth team fighting for second slot in the league. Again very windy conditions. I thought we always looked the better team and the scoring was opened by goal of the season from Niall McGoldrick-a thunderous shot from long distance flew into the roof of the net-unstoppable. Both teams kept on battling and Seaburn kept attacking and got our just rewards with two more goals from the goal machine Jack McAneny. This victory ensured that Silksworth couldn't catch us-it was down to Seaburn or Swalwell for second place.
Redby Whites 0 v 1 Seaburn fc
What a contrast to the first game-we were not with it-the lads started niggling at each other and not playing their usual pass and move football. Redby kept battling and the game looked to be fizzling out for a draw when Niall McGoldrick fed a lovely ball thru to Mark Wolfe who tucked it away in the corner. Great work at the back by Ben Mitchell and Connor Lawson. Callum Reveley returned from injury and looked to be back to his solid best. This win ensured second place and a night out at the presentation evening (get your party frocks on-and thats just the blokes) which has been fully deserved after a great season-well done lads-its been a pleasure to watch the football all season
Saturday 1st March 2008
Seaburn fc 2 v 0 Riverside
Yet again horrible windy conditions contributed in this game. the lads kept battling and were much the better side and eventually ran out worthy winners. Goals from Jack McAneny and another from Ben Mitchell-well done. The first was a great thru pass from Mark Wolfe (when he woke up) and the second came after a goalmouth scramble. Stu Hogan played great in this one. Nick Killeen nearly bagged one late one. Two games left in the league season and all to play for. Quick word for Niall McGoldrick who has been signed for Sunderland Academy-well done big fella-totally justified.
Sunday 24th february 2008
Seaburn fc 0 v 0 Washington Tigers
Our lucky day. Washington had the lions share of this game-hitting the woodwork twice and missing two "one on one's" but great credit to our lads for hanging in there and grabbing the draw. Matty Dawson reacted superbly in goal-always picking up any loose balls-his kicking was great today also-well done Matty. Ben Mitchell also worthy of note using his pace to snub out any danger-on more than one occasion. This point could prove crucial at the end of the season. Great hard work by the lads-well done.
Byers Green 0 v 4 Seaburn fc
A slow start to this one eventually turned into our favour with consistent pressure on their goal. A great tuck away by Nick Killeen saw his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season-well done Nick-thoroughly deserved. Other goals came from Jack McAneny and a brace from Stu Hogan. A comfortable win in the end but the lads had to work hard for the points. three games left of the season and we are still in with a shout of some silverware. Come on Seaburn!!
Saturday 23rd february 2008
Seaburn fc 4 v 1 Boldon Colts
A game of two halves in horrible windy conditions. First half against the wind we didn't get going and fell behind to a sloppy goal. A few home truths were discussed at half time and the second half was much improved with Niall McGoldrick bagging a goal and Jack McAneny grabbing a hat-trick-the last one was a screamer from distance. The wind spoiled the day but three valuable points.
Willington Whites 0 v 3 Seaburn fc
Again the wind spoiled this one but playing with the wind in the first half gave us a bit of an advantage. We created several chances to kill the game in the first half but missed a hat full. Great passing move saw Niall McGoldrick tuck one away then a guest appearance by ben Mitchell on the scoresheet saw him slot one past the keeper-well done. Two up at half taime and they came at us with the wind in the second but our lads tried toplay it on the floor and managed to nick a third from Jack McAneny-a well deserved win in the end. Well played lads.
Sunday 17th february 2008
Plains Farm 0 v 4 seaburn Juniors
No games yesterday and this was our first trip to Soccarena for a rearranged game. the lads were on form from the start and dominated throughout the match creating several opportunities. Goals came from Mark Wolfe and stu Hogan who bagged a brace each. Jo Atkinson slotted into defence and played well and Nick Killeen played up front and on another day could have got a hat-trick. Three well earned points
Saturday 9th February 2008
Seaburn juniors 1 v 1 Whitburn & Cleadon
At last a game of footy after two months absence. The lads showed great touch in this game and dominated throughout but couldn't convert the possession into goals. Little Connor Lawson had a superb game at the back-well done. The goal came from Jack McAneny from a great through ball and Jack tucked it past their keeper-great finish. Mitch was solid at the back and Niall kept knocking the balls into the box. Nick Killeen narrowly missed an opportunity then from an attack at the other end they equalised through a cruel own goal-its a funny old game. we deserved three points from this display.
Swalwell Swifts 0 v 2 Seaburn Juniors
A must win game turned out in our favour. we were the better team again in this one and fully earned the three points here. two more from Jack McAneny from two great through balls settled the match. This win puts us in joint second place with eight games remaining-great effort from the lads. little Lawsy was superb again in this one. Both Jo and Matty made vital saves-well done. if we can keep this form till the end of season we should maintain our well earned position
Saturday 8th december 2007
Seaburn Juniors 2 v 1 Fulwell Juniors
It's not over till it's over. tremendous fighting spirit by the boys in this game. The lads never gave up the game despite going a goal behind and fought all the way to the final whistle. we never showed our usual slick passing mainly down to Fulwell not allowing us the privilege. Chances were at a premium and when it looked like we were going down one nil Mark Wolfe stepped up with a sweet left footer which canonned in off the upright. That got our spirit up and at the death Jack McAneny popped up with a great header to steal the points-Fulwell deserved a point-cruel. man of the match Ben Mitchell-their attackers got thru on several occasions and as they were about to unload up popped Mitch with a superb tackle, time and time again-great defending. Three valuable points. Well done lads.
Redby Reds 1 v 0 Seaburn Juniors
A very even game in this one where we created three great chances but couldn't convert them into goals. a very physical game and the lads went down to a flukey own goal but deserved at least a point. unfortunately the behaviour of some of Redby parents ruined the day and the match with some poor behaviour. The parents need to remember what this all about-kids footy. Good game-shame about their parents.
Saturday 1st December 2007
East Durham 0 v 2 Seaburn Juniors
Good solid performance by the lads in this one. game started really positively with Niall McGoldrick cracking one in virtually from the kick off. That settled the nerves and a tough physical battle ensued where me matched the opponents tackle for tackle. The lads got to grips with the cold wind and continued to create chances then Jack McAneny popped up with a cool finish to double the lead. Some great defensive play which enabled the team to attack repeatedly. Every player took their part in this win. Well done
Seaburn Juniors 4 v 0 Hilda Park
The bogey team. But not today. We played the best football i have seen by the team in three years-going in at half time leading by four goals. We were constantly on the attack and the scoreline flattered the opponents. We created chance after chance and could have doubled the scoreline in the second half. Jack McAneny bagged a hatrick and Niall McGoldrick whipped one in from a corner. The defence were solid, midfield created and defended well and on another day we could have hit double figures. Excellent result and a wonderful performance from everyone. Six points keeps us right up there. Great football today lads.
Saturday 24th November 2007
Seaburn juniors 3 v 2 Deerness Valley Lightning
Some cracking goals and passing play in this game and a scoreline which really flattered Deerness. Again Stu Hogan played on the left and capped his game with a superb long range effort after a poor clearance by their keeper. Earlier Niall McGoldrick opened the scoring with a fierce shot from the right wing and Jack McAneny bagged the third to seal the victory. The pleasing thing today was the number of chances we created and resolute defending. The midfield worked hard to support both the defence and the attack-great team effort and three points in the bag.
Elemore 0 v 3 Seaburn juniors
Bit of a slow start to this game but we never looked like conceding. We just couldn't break Elemore down in the first half but then the second half was totally different. Niall McGoldrick kicked into top gear and tortured their defence and capped his performance with a goal. Jack McAneny bagged a brace which rounded off a great battling performance and a much better performance by the lads this week. Six more points and still flying high-well done lads.
Saturday 17th november 2007
Seaburn Juniors 3 v 1 Chester Tigers
A real game of two halves. First half we never played at all and deservedly went behind with Chester playing some nice stuff. We were lucky to come off at half time only one behind. We on;y started to play after we equalised through Niall McGoldrick who ran the length of the pitch and slammed it home. We nicked a second goal shortly after with Mark Wolfe slotting home. That proved to be the sucker punch and Chester lads heads went down. A third soon followed with Jack McAneny bagging one and a scoreline which flattered us. On another day we could have been beaten but credit to the lads they kept battling away and earned three vital points. A mention for callum Reveley who came on late in the game but was superb at the back.
Easington colliery welfare 1 v 2 Seaburn juniors
Another fortunate win here, much like the first game. The lads battled hard and tackled hard and we nicked two goals courtesy of great footwork from Jack Mcaneny who was playing with an injury. Matty Dawson was outstanding in goal and made several fantastic blocks and if it wasn't for him we would have been soundly beaten here-fortunately the opposition didn't have their shooting boots on! Liam Hogg nearly bagged one at the death but narrowly missed. this was our lucky day-six points in the bag but could have been very different on another day.
Saturday 10th November 2007
Byers green 0 v 6 Seaburn Juniors
Well done the lads. Everyone played their part today-passing was great-a real team performance. Jack McAneny was back on form and Niall McGoldrick thankfully had recovered from his back injury from last week. We`started slowly but once we kicked into gear we were superb and the scoreline flattered the opposition. Virtually every player had a scoring opportunity today which shows how well we worked together. Stu Hogan was awesome in this one-back to his best. Every player had the right attitude today and unlike last week we showed how we can perform when we play as a team. It could have hit double figures today but a win is all we need=WELL DONE
Seaburn Juniors 3 v 2 City of Durham
We used our get out of jail free card today in this one =what a tight game! We got off to a great start with Stu Hogan slotting home a real long range effort. Then poor Jack McAneny worked his socks off in defence and was unlucky to get an OG which levelled the scores.Matt Dawson made a great save in this one palming the ball away after a goal looked a certainty. Before we knew it we were behind after sloppy work at the back but the best was yet to come. Ben Mitchell came up with a glancing header from a corner which Wayne rooney would have been proud of. he beat the defender to the ball and bagged his second of the season-goal of the day. Then we were ready to head home with a point in the bag-Mark Wolfe popped up with a left footed strike to steal the points-must have been a miskick!! the team keeps improving each week.
Sunday 4th November 2007
Redby Reds 1 v 0 Seaburn Juniors
A very tight match today between two teams fighting for top spot. Very few chances fell to either team with Redby pinching the points with a well taken goal. The lads worked their socks off in this one and were unlucky not to take a share of the spoils.
Seaburn Juniors 1 v 0 Plains Farm
After the earlier match and two games yesterday the lads were understandably worn out and found it hard to break down a determined Plains farm team. Deadlock was eventually broken with a corner from Mark Wolfe which Jack McAneny volleyed home. That takes us to joint second in the league-our highest position so far. As a side note the day was spoilt by the attitude of two players who let themselves and the team down today with their attitude-hopefully this won't happen again!!
Saturday 3rd November 2007
Willington Whites 1 v 5 Seaburn Juniors
This was truly a game of two halves. We were terrible starters today-conceding an early goal and very nearly a second before the lads found their form. Niall McGoldrick was superb today torturing their left back and supplying cross after cross to our front man Jack McAneny. Ben Mitchell was solid in midfield and later in defence. Jack McAneny bagged four -courtesy of Niall and Mark Wolfe popped up with a toe poke to round it all off. Mark played well when he came on after his lie in!!!!!!!. A shaky start but a resounding win in the end. Good effort.
Seaburn Juniors 3 v 0 Boldon Colts
Forget about the football this game ended terribly with a nasty back injury to Niall McGoldrick who landed awkwardly after a challenge near the end of the game. Paramedics were called as a precaution and thankfully Niall seems to be ok-more to life than footy!!. The game was the Niall McGoldrick roadshow just like the first game-strength pace and superb crosses again and oh yes Niall popped up with a classic long range strike which beat the keeper from some distance.Callum Reveley was solid at the back. Jack McAneny bagged a brace to keep us right up there at the top of the table. Two good wins but more importantly i hope Niall makes a swift recovery-he was outstanding today.
Saturday 27th October 2007
Swalwell 4 v 0 Seaburn Juniors
A`poor display in the first game today. The lads never played football-failed to pass and move. Despite that we created a number of chances but their keeper was solid at the back and we never looked like the team that we can be at our best. We conceded some soft goals in this game and let ourselves down all over the pitch. big disappointment especially after the great results the previous week-its a funny old game!!!!!!
Seaburn Juniors 2 v 0 Whitburn & Cleadon
A tough game against our old mates up the road. The lads picked themselves up after the first game and played some great football in this game. Niall McGoldrick was outstanding on the right and they just couldn't handle him. Goals came from Mark Wolfe and Jack McAneny. Everyone played their part in this win-we created several chances to kill the game off but lacked the finishing touch. if we could just start better in our first game each week !! Was encouraging to see the lads battle away and fully earned the three points in this one
Saturday 20th October 2007
Washington Utd Tigers 0 v 2 Seaburn Juniors
Superb battling performance by the lads today. A very even contest to begin with as we made our usual late wake up call. In the first half we just didn't play football-kick and rush then into the second we calmed things down and played as a team. Goals came from Jack McAneny and Mark Wolfe. The work ethic in the game was tremendous. We defended from the front as a team and made it hard for the opposition to create chances. Callum Reveley came on in the second half and showed a great determination-dont think anyone got past him today. Stu Hogan played some great thru balls for the midfield/forward line and we were worthy winners in the end. Three great points.
Silksworth 0 v 1 Seaburn Juniors
As in the first game the work ethic was the outstanding feature of this game. Silky hardly created a chance but were always capable of hurting us. A superb finish by Jack McAneny after a great ball in by Niall McGoldrick settled the game-this was always going to be a one goal game. All of the lads showed me how they can defend and battle against the top teams today. The lads again showed their versatility-a number of them playing in varied positions but all took up the challenge. We always looked dangerous on nthe attack. Today is the reason why i got involved in youth football. 100% commitment and all smiles at the end. The lads really earned their 6 points today. A joy to watch-they all deserve a huge pat on the back-SUPERB
Saturday 13th October 2007
Seaburn Juniors 3 v 0 Redby Whites
An excellent battling performance by our lads in this match. A very even game to begin with then the lads kicked into gear and dominated the match. Goals came from Jack McAneny, Mark Wolfe and Ben Mitchell (nice one) but solid performances by all the lads today. There were two goals disallowed for some unknown reason but a very comfortable win none the less. i used some of the lads in different positions today and they showed how versatile they can be.
Riverside 2 v 4 Seaburn Juniors
A very physical match. Poor Niall Mcgoldrick got kicked all over the park with no protection from the referee but had the last laugh creating a superb fourth goal which settled the points. Jack McAneny-playing in centre midfield hit a wonder strike in the roof of the net and went on to bag another later in the game. jack worked his socks off in this one-well done. Other goals came from Mark Wolfe and Niall McGoldrick. Special mention for Ben Mitchell who at times was left alone at the back but got on with the job and won every tackle-never a moan or a gripe-a seasoned pro. The game should have been won much more comfortably but we gifted them two goals from defensive mistakes. We keep sneaking up that table.WELL DONE Seaburn.
Saturday 6th October 2007
No games today but results were kind to us. Two wins next week could see us climb further up the table to consolidate our good start to the season.
Saturday 29th September 2007
Seaburn Juniors 3 v 1 Fulwell fc
Our first local derby of the season against our good mates Fulwell-never an easy game and today proved to be no different. Today was the best performance of the season if not the best ever. The lads worked brilliantly together-strong in defence and passed the ball well. Goals came from Mark Wolfe (left footer) and two from Niall McGoldrick whose work rate was superb. I thought we were in control from the kick off and fully deserved the three points. A really pleasing performance-all the players supported each other and worked as a unit.
Hilda Park 1 v 1 Seaburn Juniors
A very even contest against a solid team. Hilda Park passed the ball around confidently and we never really got a grip of the game. Our passing was poor in this game and the lads looked a little tired after the earlier battle with Fulwell-but they kept working and battling. Our goal came from a corner by Mark Wolfe which went in off one of their lads but we will claim it unless the league state otherwise. Some great saves from Matt Dawson in goal kept us in the game and they got a deserved equaliser with a good strike. Honours even. Four hard earned points today puts us up to 5th in the league-steadily creeping up

Seaburn Juniors 5 v 0 East Durham
Back on track. don't know what happened last week but the lads were firing on all cylinders again. Superb hatrick by Jack McAneny and two wonderstrikes by the midfield Dynamo Niall McGoldrick. Good solid tackling all round and sound defending. Our attacking moves were very impressive in this game and when called upon Matty Dawson was alert between the sticks. great win - well done lads.
Elemore 0 v 4 Seaburn Juniors
As in the first game the lads were up and running from the kick off. we were camped in their half for most of the match. Goals from Niall McGoldrick, two from Jack McAneny and one from Liam Hogg-again-well done. This season we are getting goals from all positions. Again the passing from the back was impressive and great tackling and passing from the midfield. That has moved us up to 6th in the table. Excellent days work by the lads. We`were back to our old self today. WELL DONE
Saturday 15th September 2007
Seaburn Juniors 0 v 0 Deerness Valley Lightning
The lads were out of sorts today. We never played football all day. We huffed and puffed but couldn't find the killer touch.
Easington Colliery Welfare 2 v 1 Seaburn Juniors
As with the first match we weren't at the races again. Tiredness showed and before we knew it we were two nil down. a mini fight back saw Stu Hogan slot one home but we were beaten by the better team on the day.
Saturday 8th September 2007
Seaburn Juniors 2 v 1 Chester Tigers
An excellent win after a very hard fought battle. Goals from Mark Wolfe at the end of a wonderful passing move and Jack McAneny sealed the win. The lads worked their socks off in this match and came out with three well deserved points. Fantastic tip over by Matty Dawson ensured all three points were coming our way. Great start to the new season.
City of Durham 3 v 3 Seaburn Juniors
A disappointing follow up to our early match against Chester. The lads forgot to pass and move and before they knew it we were two down. we must learn to defend better and play better as a team. In the end the lads picked themselves up and fought back from 3-1 down to pinch a point. Goals from Niall McGoldrick, Liam Hogg and Jack McAneny. well done. we are getting goals from more players already this year which is encouraging to see. With a bit more concentration we could have nicked this one too but four points is a great start to the season-well done Seaburn.

update 1st july 2007 u9's
the lads showed great character today at the Plains farm tournament. we were in total control of the group stage initially drawing with Whitburn & Cleadon 0-0 then a 2-1 victory over Riverside, 3-0 victory over Elemore and a 1-0 win over Washington. striker Jack mcaneny was on fire with three goals and second leading scorer was our guest keeper Chris Bell who bagged two from long range. Mark Wolfe hit a rasping shot from halfway which struck the bar with the keeper beaten. then to the semi final against Waldridge Park which went into extra time then penalties after a 0-0 stalemate. the penalty takers showed great courage in stepping up and we were eventually beaten in the sudden death shoot out, losing 7-6, all eleven players worked their socks off and can be very proud of their achievements today.
Well done Seaburn. Ps hope the mums can get all the mud off the tops after the dive in the mud bath at the end.
update 29th june 2007 u'9s
well done to all the lads after sterling work and endeavour in the Whitburn & Cleadon tournament 23rd june 2007. after a slow start the lads kicked into gear comfortably qualifying from the group stage then won a hard fought match against safc 24/7 1-0. Silksworth eventually ended our run with a deserved 3-0 victory but the lads gave one last big effort to beat Whitburn & Cleadon 1-0 and finish in a respectable third place. each and every one deserved their medal. well done lads you have done me proud. three newly signed players scored their first competitive goals for the team, Liam Hogg, Nicholas Killeen and Niall McGoldrick-well done. the future is bright. i look forward to the Plains farm tournament sunday 1st july 2007 and more silverware

And now the end is near, the final curtain.... seriously its not Frankie but Steve signing off.
I have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic young personalities over the last couple of years who have come along to be part of the football team. Some have stayed around, others have moved on, but what a pleasure I have had to see them grow. Ushy for just being Ushy, a smashing lad who sometimes looks at me as if I am mad. Matty, well, his little bubble just keeps on bobbling along. I wish Mark could be more consistent, as he can play you know. Dom is quiet but with a great sense of humour. Ross plods along in his quiet way, Fiery Jack is just a dream kid in my eyes, very intelligent, and a huge scoring talent. Mitch is a total pro and he is only 9 year old! Stuey is Mr Football. Precision is the word for Stu. I bet he has every result from every game he has played in stuck on his bedroom wall. They are all different in their ways, and it will be interesting to see how some of them go on with their footballing as a pastime, but I know they will all do well away from footy.
Wolfie has been working with the team solely for the past few weeks and its only fair that he was to pick the team for the last few games and today all I wanted to say was just a couple of things to key players. I asked Jack to work hard and give Aaron a rugged time in the Chester defence like he has done before. He posted a hat-trick today did Jack. 52 goals is a fantastic achievement for anyone in any team. I said to Mitch the skipper to play his natural game and enjoy it. Chester were snuffed out. Job done Mitch!
I would like to post a massive thanks to Paul Wolfe for the last few years help and hope he gets full support from all parents for the coming season(s)
Also, thanks to all the boys for giving me great satisfaction beating one of the best teams 3-1 today.

Today we had top of the league Silksworth to play and after a smashing game of football, where we had plenty of possession, we were on the losing end, the game finishing 1-0 by an own goal from Chris.
Next up, we had Shotton Sharks to contend with. Shotton played some lovely football at times, but we stepped up a gear and had some good spells of our own. If it wasn't for the Shotton keeper we may have ran away with the game. Jack had a great all-round game and set Chris up to make it 1-0. Jack then made it two after a fine ball through from Ross. Shotton were then lifted by snatching a goal, but almost immediately from the kick-off we went up the other and Jack slipped a nice ball through to Chris who smashed a Bobby Charlton like goal in to the back of the net to make it 3-1.

A day of contrasting fortunes. Redby Reds deservedly winning 2-0 in the first game. We started slowly and went two down in no time and never looked like coming back in to it.
Second up we played Redby Whites and beat them 1-0 with Jack scoring to edge closer to 50 goals for the season which is a fantastic feat. It was an awful game but we gladly take the 3 points. Sadly we had to play lots of the second half of the game with one of the lads playing on injured. After 30 minutes of time on the pitch I took Ross off at half-time, but was unable to put him back on again as he had already left without reason.
A big thanks to Chris who played in goal for both matches due to injury and Matty "Nobby Stiles" Dawson who swapped with him. Its must have been difficult for the lad but he warmed to the task and put some cracking tackles in. Also a mention for Dom who put in lots of effort and deserves a pat on the back for keep on going.

Its about time we got what we deserved. Nothing. Its been on the cards for a while, and I am pleased I noted it last week that I thought we were fortunate. This week the results were just about right. We created nothing in the first half against Hilda Park and deserved to go in at half time 1-0 down. Second half was a different story when we battered them for 10 minutes, but didn't get the breakthrough. Too many switched off towards the end and it finished a dissapointing 1-0 reverse. A poor response was also noted in losing top spot to Hilda Park. Too many didn't seem to give a monkeys.
Next up we came across a spirited Plains Farm Blues who taught us a lesson in finishing and exploited some very average defending, which is usually a strong point of ours. There is always goals in the games between us, but I didn't expect to concede more goals in one game than we have in the previous eight. A 4-2 loss was the ultimate outcome, and Plainsy were cock a hoop for beating a very poor Seaburn team.

Two wins but that doesn't tell the story. We never get penalties, but we got two today and I'm baffled as to why.The first game in which we won 4-1, we were not at our sharpest. Our friends at Elemore were worthy in defeat. Two goals from Jack, one a pena, a topper from Stuey and a blinding header from Chris sealed the win. A pena and a header? It can't have been us! We hit the bar twice and the post once, yet the performance still looked a bit disjointed. Second game up was against Fulwell, who we all get on with and Andy had their lads up for this one. The Fulwell lads toiled away and never gave up. We were delighted to come away with a 3-2 victory, but it was a great battle on a hard surface in very blustery conditions. This was our hardest game so far in this cup competition. Jack got another brace with a penalty and well taken goal, and Chris chipped in with another.

Today the fixtures brought us up against newcomers Easington Condors who comfortably won the first division recently, and we absolutely thumped them 6-0. You cannot argue against a score like that and the margin could have been wider. Chris bagged a hat-trick in his 15 minutes, Jack got a couple and Mark weighed in with a goal that he will remember for a long time. I liked the celebrations too and it was pleasing to see the lads enjoying it. for their biggest win of the season and enjoying playing football which is what its all about.
Next up we had East Durham. Its always a physical encounter against them, but the lads once again showed what character they have and basically out-battled and out performed them. A 1-0 win was fully deserved following a great shot from Jack which thundered in off the post.

3RD MARCH 2007
The Round Robin cup fixtures started today. After a month waiting for the kick off, I have the pen here, so lets go: Any under 9's parents please read this to your son if you read it before them, and if they don't get to see it, please relay it to them.
A display of whole hearted commitment from most of the players. We have lads in the team that are so keen to improve, and it is a pleasure to see. I am sure they will benefit from this in the foreseeable future. If you want quality, you have to have players that want to learn, listen and compete, and a certain amount of dedication and stamina for this tough game of football. If you don't have that, forget it and maybe you need to move on. If Paul and me want a friendly on a cold damp January fixture-free weekend, turn up, and show your dedication to the rest of the boys in the team.
Match Report : Efficient hard work but unfortunately spoilt by a parents attitude off the pitch which has deflated my enthusiasm for what Paul and I have put a lot of effort in to, to give children the chance to play football in a safe, well run environment.
The first game was a good, solid effort. 1-0 to the lads. Jack again reaping the rewards from a good move. Mark was outstanding in the game and shows that he can do it when he wants to. Me and his dad want him to do it every week and he drives us mad. I hope he gets to read this paragraph.
In my opinion, Ross was man of the match in the second game which gave me the most pleasure for ages. I really wanted him to give us all good show, and he deserved a full 30 minutes creating the winner for Jack to slot home again. Dom played so well in defence, and best of all was Mitch who was absolutely outstanding all day.
After consideration I have decided to continue to the end of the current cup campaign and not resign hastily which I was in favour of doing today. I am saddened that the Under 9's team has had to be highlighted once again, and when you are 1st or 2nd best out of 64 other teams, this is baffling. So baffling I had to put it in writing so all can read it.

Well that's it folks until Feb 24th. The first part of the Under 9's season came to a successful end today after another two wins and another two clean sheets. As it was the last games and nothing at stake due to last weeks achievements we gave Matty a run out of goal, and Jack ably stepped in for him. It was blowing a hooly. The lads battled away and got the better of Elemore in the first game. Sam scoring a great opener, fully created by himself with a driving run, then Mark converted a beauty after some good passing and movement. The second game of the day against City of Durham was played in atrocious conditions, but we managed to sneak one in after good work by Chris saw his shot sneak past their keeper. Well done again lads.

On Paper it was our toughest fixtures to date and at a crucial part of the season. Would we blow it? Not likely! The Under 9's today had Chester - who could still pip us for second spot, and Redby Reds, who were crowned champions a few weeks ago having gone 27 games unbeaten. In my opinion they are the toughest teams to play against. Now this bunch of lads have stood up today and showed the character, determination and ultimate passion for the game. Not one of them were going to be beaten today. To play such aggressive, but controlled, football in such circumstances was fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough for them. Everyone of them deserves a mention. I've said it before and I'll say it again, football is a TEAM game.
Matt Dawson - Brave goalkeeping when required. No chance with the goals. Looking more and more steady. Starting to shout at the defence too. Top Keeper. Very brave.
Ben Mitchell - The skipper covered every blade of grass in defence in both games. Strong quick and determined. Had a superb bursting run right from the back but unlucky with the bounce or else he was through on goal.
Stu "Mr Football" Hogan - He hasn't been with us long but has settled in so well. Superb footballer. Strong, quick. Loves to go on a run, but gets back quickly. Great passer, fantastic headerer of the ball. From the free kick on the right I asked Stu to take it and hit the target as he is left footed. He noticed Chris was unmarked in a better position which showed great thinking, and the deflection fell kindly to him to score the winner against Redby and his first for the club. Forced off with injury but great day for Stuey.
Dom Kirby - Big and powerful. Never stopped. He will sleep well tonight after putting in a full game against Redby. Strong in defence and attack and won his 50-50's.
Chris Bell - Snuffed out the oppositions' better players so much so they were ordinary and went unnoticed. Put in the hard work for the team in the middle. Never stopped.
Mark Wolfe - Back to his best. Tackles, passes, and runs. Forced in to defence for last 10 minutes against Redby and was outstanding.
Jack "Johnny on the spot" McAneny - Tore both teams defences to shreds. Blistering runs, showed good aggression and scored smashing goals again. Forced off injured against Redby but put in top drawer performances.
Ben Usher - Put in a great shift in both games. Kept his head up and tried his best. Important interceptions too. Well done Ushy.
Sam Ainslie - Got walloped in the face - but wanted to carry on. I asked him to do a man marking job on the Redby Reds left sided player and he stuck to the task 100%. Snuffed him right out of the game in the second half. Superb.
Ross Greenwell - Typified the whole teams work today. Played at Centre Forward for large parts and in the last few minutes of the Redby game he raced for a ball he wasn't going to win right down in to the corner, Not only did he use up valuable time, but won the throw in from what looked like a lost cause. Top job Ross!
Well done boys. You have secured second spot and fully deserve another presentation night.

The Under 9's got 2007 off to a flyer and moved up in to second spot today with two important wins. After a shaky start against a determined Redby Whites, we managed to go a goal up. A nice finish by Jack after some good build up play. Redby equalised with a well taken goal, before a great cross from Dom found the head of Jack who nodded the ball back beyond the keeper into the left hand corner. It was a good game of football and as always we look forward to playing Redby Whites again next season in the Premier league.
Next up came TEF Castle Rovers. Stuey and Jack's former team. The lads were up for this one and it was no surprise to go a goal up pretty soon in to the game. Chris netting from a fair distance in to the corner of the net. Jack soon netted another and we went in 2-0 up at half time. Jack got his fourth of the day in the second half to complete a well earned 3-0 victory. It was certainly not a low interest game.

16th December 2006
Well, what a great day. Six points, no goals conceded and yet again masses of determination and effort from the lads on a couple of heavy pitches. The Under 9's once again produced some good football in what were two entertaining matches. First up we defeated City of Durham who we played for the first time, and they look a good side who try to play football in the right way and with good spirit, After they shaded the first five minutes we seemed to find our feet and battled well to go a goal up. Excellent football by Stu down the left who cut it back for Jack to get the opener. A similar second goal and similar good football by Dom, who cut it back for.......wait for it...... Jack to score the second. We ran out worthy 2-0 winners.
Next up came Chester Tigers, who are a very good football team, and we got our first victory against them in an end to end encounter. Tremendous defending by Mitch and Stu kept Matty well covered, but even when they were breached, we were in debt to him as he was solid. Some creative play and a little aggression by Chris in the middle would always give us a chance to snatch a winner, and late in the second half we scored a great goal after their keeper saved the first effort it rebounded to Urmm.....wait for it...... Jack, to pounce for his third of the day. Lets just say it was time to consolidate. I had to remember I was at kids football and compose myself, but to say I was happy is an understatement. Keep it up lads, with games in hand, its in our hands now to keep the pressure on the group chasing second spot after Redby Reds were confirmed as champions last week.

Another very satisfying day for the Under 9's. Not one of the lads put a foot wrong today on a bit of a mud bath in our only game today against Whitburn & Cleadon. We really are hitting form now and Matty in goal could have brought a paper and had a cuppa during the match as he only touched the ball once or twice. It was really that one sided. We had at least six good chances and a couple of half chances but somehow went off 0-0 at half time. Patience prevailed and Jack notched another brace to make the final score 2-0. Now he finishes well does young Jack - make no mistake about that - but he must be delighted with the service he gets. Dom was outstanding. I asked him to give us hard work for 15 minutes and he came off red faced at half time. What a great effort. Stuey has fitted in so well too. He is a cool footballing defender and again impressed me with his work ethic for the team. I single these two out as they were the two to get substituted today but both are a credit to the team and Sam and Ross who came on were up for it from the off. Well done to each and every one of you.
We have some big games against the top teams coming up and it's no good having games in hand if we don't win them. Lets kick on from here.

Two games today for the Under 9's, and another four points picked up. The first game we hit the post before any Willington players had touched the ball in a great flowing move. We went two up before five minutes were on the clock and literally battered the opposition. It could have really been a cricket score but any team is happy with a 5-0 victory. A special mention to must go to everyone for contributing toward Jack's five goals. In the second game we happened to come across Deerness Valley Lightening, who are fast becoming our bogey team. In a tough, well fought battle we couldn't find the net again against them, but credit to Matty who pulled off two outstanding saves. Stu fitted in very nicely in his first run out for Seaburn, and all in all, it was a good mornings work-out.

No games this weekend for the Under 9's but we have some magnificent news. Chris Bell had been moved up from the Sunderland Academy Development Centre to train with the actual academy squad for the last 6 weeks. He has now been rewarded for his hard work, effort and most of all talent with a 3 year contract with the Sunderland Academy team. He played his first game for them today (Sunday) in a 2-2 draw with Huddersfield and slotted in very comfortably. Well done Chris, it a great achievement for you and the club.

Well, it was a day of contrasting fortunes once again for the Under 9's. First up was Durham County who must have thought they had come up against Brazil. We were class. Passing and moving all over the place with what was our best performance of the season. It could have been more but we settled for 5-0. Chris and Jack getting a couple each and Ben Usher getting a birthday goal. Well done lads superb. In the next game we shot ourselves in the foot by simply not marking from the kick -off. An easy ball in behind our right hand side where our defenders were sleeping and we were unable to turn the game around after they went 2 up. A bit more composure in front of goal and we could have won the game comfortably. Hilda Park ran out 2-1 winners with Chris getting our goal. A mention to Mitch who moved from defence to right wing and made a big impact. Also to Jack, keep your head up mate, the Hilda Park game was just one of those things! Good thing is you are getting in the right positions to score. Unlucky lads.

The Under 9's had two games today and picked up 3 points. A dissapointing 2-0 reverse against Deerness Valley Lightening in the first game. We could have been 3 up before we decided to gift them an opener. They still hadn't a single shot but went 1-0 up with another own goal , lets move on.... We equalised, sorry no we didn't! The ref gave a goal for the equaliser then over ruled himself after a parent behind the Deerness goal (probably the keepers dad) said it wasnt in! Deerness duly went down the other end and scored with their first shot of the game to win 2-0. What a farce.
The second game was also on pitch 3, with the same ref. We were coasting 2-0 after a couple from Jack, then the ref inexplicably gave East Durham a penalty. The twice taken penalty (why I dont know!) gave East Durham a sniff, but we continued to battle and Chris scored a well taken third. Jack almost scored a beauty from an over head scissors kick. A mention for Ushy who created a couple of the goals and Mitch who was superb in defence once again. I would like to comment on the ref, but we all have bad days, if we had lost it would sound like sour grapes, but fortunately we were worthy winners.

The Under 9's had only one game today, and we were unlucky not to take all three points. In a battling 0-0 draw with Whitburn & Cleadon we had most of the play but couldn't take the opportunities to break the deadlock. Well played lads, it keeps the unbeaten run going.

The Under 9's were superb again in the first game. The passing and movement was once again great to watch and in very windy conditions carried out the instructions to keep the ball on the ground... and pass! They were rewarded with a 4-0 victory over Willington, who had only conceded 4 goals all season before today's game. Chris got 2, Jack 1, and Jon was on hand to slot home number 4. In the other game a well deserved and battling draw against TEF Castle Rovers kept us on target for getting back in to the top 3 of the table. Jack scored a beauty against his old team, and we came close to another victory when we had a couple of great chances near the end of the match, but 1-1 was a fair result. Good work lads.

The Under 9’s were absolutely superb today. Every single one of them put 100% effort in to their game and got their rewards. A real team effort. Ushy was different class, and we used the role on/off sub to our advantage. In the first game we soundly beat Redby Whites 5-1 and it could have been more, Chris getting a hat-trick and Jack got a couple more. In the second game of the day we comprehensively beat The Riverside 3-0. Wolfie’s passing was a joy to watch, but Jacks finishing was superb and he deserved his hat-trick. Ben Mitchell has taken to captaining the team like a duck to water, and has shown what a leader he is. He was tremendous at the back and swept up all that came his way. The Under 9's climbed the table but conceded a terrible 9 goals today. In a thrilling end-to-end game we beat Plains Farm Blues 6-4. Some tremendous passing and great goals but the defence was very leaky once again. Jack scored a hat-trick and Mark claimed another goal, but Chris was outstanding once again and scored 2 beauties. We wont dwell on the second game too much after getting thumped 5-0 by league leaders Redby Reds who will go on to win the league at a canter on current form. UNDER 9's CAPTAIN.
Having used a rotational captain policy we have decided to appoint a full time captain. After consultation we are delighted that will be captain of the team. Ben is a hard working intelligent lad who always gives 100% in every game, right up until the final whistle. The appointment is for a number of reasons, but mostly to reward Ben for his hard work. The rest of the team should look up to Ben and match his work rate, commitment and effort. If they come somewhere close then we will have a successful season.

The final friendly for the Under 9's before the season starts was a very tough encounter against a full strength and determined Redby Whites. After a goalless first half, the boys eventually sniffed out an opener when Chris wrong footed their keeper to slot a left footer in to the corner. Jack was inevitably on target yet again as the boys won 2-0. All the squad was used and Redby won the second game 1-0 with a comedy goal. We will learn not to watch the ball on the line after the intial effort hit the bar and bobbled around the box for a while. The Under 9's competed for the second year running in a triangular tournament at Portland School. Fulwell (hosts) and Redby Whites were the opposition. After a few harsh words due to the poor previous displays it was heartening to see the performance of the lads who were back to almost their best. We played Redby first and were superb. Jack bagged 4 and Dom scored a blinder from all of 25yds. The passing and movement was great. Wolfie was back on his game, Ross and Mitch were in control in defence and Matty had very little to do in dreadful rainy conditions. Chris's sweeping runs from midfield produced most of Jacks chances and Jonathon kept going right until the end. As the conditions worsened, instead of having subs getting cold and wet, we made it 9-a-side against Fulwell. "Johnny on the spot" got another 2 to take his tally to 6 for the day. Althought Fulwell did work Matty it ended up 7 goals for 0 against and the lads deservedly won the tournament. Redby and Fulwell played a 0-0 draw in the opening game.

The Under 9's were invited along to play Silksworth and it proved to be a very tough work out for the lads. Some of our boys must start to battle or we are going to get walked all over in the new season. The selection of the team has been very fair but the commitment of one or two is letting the others down. Silksworth deserved their victory in the first match despite a cracking consolation goal by Ben Usher. The second game was an improvement where we started to pass the ball...... even on a tight pitch you can do it lads!!. Jack popped up with a couple as usual and Chris scored a snorter, even the ref clapped! More of the second game than the first please! 100% from Mitch as usual and Matts kicks are coming on great. Good luck to Silksworth for the new season.

21st August 2006:
On Sunday 20th August, it felt a little strange to be back in action at Shiney Row once again in the RFYL tournament. The Under 9s being involved in a strongly weighted group A which would surely, and did, provide the eventual tournament winners. A decent start against Whitburn & Cleadon was insufficient. A well deserved and strengthend Redby Reds went on to lift the cup. Dom was a big miss in our final match due to an ankle knock. Any sort of win would have seen us through to the semis. This was the biggest ever loss for the team. but they did well to come back from 3-0 down at half time to get back to 3-2 before fatigue of 90 minutes of football gave way and Chester came out worthy winners.
